Tips to Holding an Outdoor Wedding

Watching old television shows with the people in grand homes holding their weddings on their own property makes one think of outdoor weddings. Beautifully manicured lawns and exquisite gardens adorn the scene. It seems like the perfect location for a wedding ceremony and reception. Who would refuse being married under those circumstances? But those are television shows and the weather is always perfect and nothing goes wrong. In the real world, many factors go into holding an outdoor wedding and many things we take for granted when celebrating inside, we forget about when we hold the festivities outside.

If you feel that you would like to do something different than booking a hall for your reception, the following list will give you some ideas of what to look for in your city.

Many cities have unique areas in which they allow people to marry. Maybe they have a historic library, an old town museum or botanical gardens.
People are trying to find ways to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Thus, for their wedding plans, they try to find some way to interact with nature. A lovely park, a nature trail or an area by the water might be their choice of wedding ceremony venue. Even if they hold the reception indoors, the wedding ceremony can be held in a peaceful setting among nature.
Chartered yachts are semi-outside venues. Most yachts will have inside areas in the case of inclement weather. But what about rough seas the day of the wedding? How will that be handled?
People have frequently held barbecue receptions in their backyards. Renting tents and large table umbrellas might a good idea. Holding the reception in the backyard lends itself to fun themes such as a western dance or a gala tea party.

Factors to think about when deciding upon an outdoor wedding ceremony and/or reception:
Be sure to let the guests know what type of attire and particularly footwear should be worn. If the wedding is a destination wedding and Save the Date Cards were sent, the cards should also include the type of terrain or area in which the guests will be expected to walk. For weddings that are in the same area but the venue is a little different, add a sheet of notes to the invitations so the guests can plan accordingly.
Also assume the worst case scenario. For example book tents or canopies in case of rainy weather.
Make prior arrangements with the photographer and videographer as to where the pictures will be taken if the weather is poor.
Rent sun umbrellas for very hot days and for areas that may not have available shade.
The wind will be a serious problem if it becomes very strong. It is much harder to compensate for wind than it is for drizzling rain. In the case of very extreme weather issues, it may be prudent to inquire about wedding insurance.
Don’t forget about the bugs. Mosquitoes can ruin an otherwise beautiful evening.
If you choose an outdoor wedding reception at venues such as the golf course, they will most likely have a bad weather contingency plan. Ideally, they would setup in the gardens but if weather does not permit, they would move everything inside the dining area or clubhouse.
Think about the decorations and how you would like the outside to look.
The caterer and baker should be aware of the type of reception. Many foods will not work well in the warm or hot weather and the menu may be slightly different than if the food was served inside.
Brides will want to tell their hairdresser so that the hairdo can withstand the outdoors.
When choosing fabrics for the dresses, look for materials that work better with outside elements.
Read bridal magazines and wedding websites of personal stories from brides and grooms who held outdoor weddings. List the problems that they encountered and try to avoid those issues when planning your wedding. First hand testimonials are usually beneficial because many times when planning a wedding, the issue was not even thought about. Hearing what others encountered makes you realize what can happen.
Always have a backup plan. And remember that you are with family and friends and your wedding might not have happened exactly as planned but it will definitely be memorable.

Keepsakes for the Bride and Groom

Every couple wants their wedding to be the one that family and guests remember. But, the bride and groom, more than anyone else, want to remember their own wedding for a long time to come. The guests who have been handpicked and who were so preciously chosen to attend are the ones closest to the couple’s heart. And these are people that should be remembered as having joined in the special occasion.

Indeed, there are many ways to make the wedding day more memorable and ways in which to make events of the day into keepsakes and long lasting mementos to be cherished for a lifetime. These are just a few suggestions that are not too expensive but will make any wedding unique and provide the couple with an ever-lasting keepsake.

Wedding Banner – Order a lovely wedding banner with the bride’s and groom’s names and place it on a table in the reception hall. Add some colored markers and maybe some stickers and let the guests sign their names to the banner. Be sure that one of the attendants lets everyone know that the banner should be signed with the guests’ names and also a small message if the guests choose. Artwork may be added as long as everyone leaves enough space for all guests to sign the banner. Once the reception is over, take the banner home to be hung proudly. Or keep the banner to display at anniversary celebrations. Think how exciting it will be to get out that banner to hang at the fiftieth wedding anniversary.

Cameras – In addition to the professional photographer, buy dollar store cameras and leave around the tables and reception hall. Tape a sticker on the cameras and place cards on the tables letting everyone know what to do with the cameras. If there is not enough time to make cards, just have the best man or maid of honor make an announcement and explain that the cameras are for the guests to take pictures. Collect all the cameras at the end of the reception. The pictures from these cameras will mean that much more to the bride and groom since the guests have personally selected the candid shots.

Program Keepsake – If the budget allows, have printed programs created to be handed to the guests as they arrive at the church entrance. When determining the quantity, remember that it is not necessary to order a program for each person on the guest list. Couples and families only require one program. The program would include information such as the bride’s name, the groom’s name, the parents of the couple, who gave the bride away, the church’s name, the date, the officiant’s name, the music played or sung, the organist’s name, the soloist’s name, the reception time and venue and any other factors that may be important to the couple.

Wedding Graffiti – For those who have a special poem or a saying that they would like to see on their wedding day, they may use fancy wedding graffiti. The specially made transfers are placed on a table or door or floor at the reception. They are easily removed afterward but provide a beautiful display during the reception. Other examples of wedding graffiti are the couple’s initials placed on the door to the reception, a funny saying on the windows of the “just married” vehicle or even transfers for mirrors in the reception hall. The graffiti personalizes the wedding while at the same time gives the couple another keepsake when the reception is over.

Wedding Flags – This is a neat idea as not only can the flag be displayed the day of the wedding, but also it can be placed in the garden in the couple’s new backyard or on the wall in a favorite room. Choose special colors to match the wedding day, add the date of the wedding and even pick a favorite photo and have it imprinted on the flag. Not only can the flags be used the day of the wedding but they are great for any events leading up to the wedding. Fly the flag proudly at the entrance to bridal showers, the rehearsal party and even the stag party. Just be sure that someone is responsible for collecting the flag and that the flag is clean and free of damage the day of the wedding.

Many new ideas are coming to the forefront when planning weddings. Look around and be creative when trying to find ways to not only make the wedding a tad different but also to provide the couple with mementos. Because so many people are marrying later in life and many families have members who move around, it is that much more important to have reminders of not only the special day but also to have remembrances of the cherished friends and relatives who joined in the celebration.

Choosing Makeup and a Hairdo for the Wedding Day

Beauty, elegance and poise are characteristics that all brides posses on their wedding day. From the fine silk and satin undergarments to the regal tiara and of course, the queen like gown, everything must be perfect. But, for most women, beauty does not stop with their clothes and embellishments. A woman’s facial makeup and hairstyle exude her personality and show the world exactly who she is.

The wedding day is particularly important to the bride when it comes to her makeup. Even though she has probably done her own makeup everyday since she was old enough to wear makeup, she will still be very nervous the day of her wedding. To ease some of the stress and to feel pampered like the queen she is, most brides will book a makeup session either at the salon or at her parents’ home where she normally dresses for the wedding ceremony.

And while having someone else do the makeup will be relaxing and peaceful, the bride should be aware of a few common mistakes when having her makeup done by someone other than herself.

1. In order to feel completely comfortable, the bride should wear the colors to which she is accustomed. Unless she knows for sure that a color suits her, she must avoid the new color. Even if others say she is beautiful, she will not feel that way unless she thinks she is beautiful in the mirror.
For example if she prefers how she looks using shades of green or purple eye shadow and the day of the wedding, the stylist uses brown, she will undoubtedly be unhappy with the look.
Likewise if her lipstick of choice is bright fuchsia and vibrant colors, then using pink or beige may make her feel dull and washed out.
Another area with eye shadows and lipsticks that cause perception problems is the finish of the color. Some women prefer gloss while others prefer matte. Using matte instead of gloss will actually be depressing. The shimmer of the gloss uplifts some women making them come alive.
2. The stylist will most likely know little tricks to hide blemishes and other marks that the bride does not want to show through. But be careful of days when it is so hot and the makeup feels like it is melting off the face. A good stylist will know the right combination of cover-up, foundation and powder.
3. The makeup should be natural but at the same time, bright enough for the picture taking. Be sure to have someone carry your makeup bag to the ceremony so you can touch up at the picture taking.

The other area of importance on the wedding day is the hairstyle or wedding day hairdo. But in this regard, unfortunately, many brides have been severely disappointed with the look of their hair. One point to remember is the most basic, common sense rule on your wedding day: DO NOT EXPERIMENT.

If you want to try a new hair coloring or a particular style, then keep sanity and do not use your wedding day as a starting point. Your outside beauty comes from the way you normally look not what you see in magazines. And although, there is nothing wrong with having that chic new hairdo for your wedding, it must be done within certain guidelines.

1. You must have tried the hairstyle before. Although, the wedding rehearsal does not require a dress rehearsal, the hair certainly does. If you are unsure about the look, then visit the hairdresser well in advance of your wedding. Have her do your hair according to your vision or the picture you have clipped from the magazine. Give the hair time to grow out in case you hate the style or the color or both.
2. Do not get trapped into choosing a hairstyle that will be awkward for you. Having the most common style that models wear with their hair on their face may cause you too many problems.
3. Remember that you want your photos to look like you. You want to be able to look back on the day and say you were happy. You do not want to spend your lifetime complaining about what you perceived as an ugly wedding hairdo.

One final word on wedding makeup and wedding day hairstyling. NEVER do your makeup wearing the gown. If you must wear the gown, make sure you are draped with a sheet or blanket and the gown is not exposed to the makeup. When it comes time to put the gown on, have others help you to hold the gown in such a way as to not spoil the gown with the makeup. Likewise when using hairspray, gel and mousse, try to add the products while you are NOT wearing the gown. The ingredients in the products may be harsh and damage the lovely gown and embellishments.

Choosing your Wedding Disc Jockey

Oddly enough, whenever people think about the Master of Ceremonies for a wedding, they invariably think Disc Jockey. And agreeably, some DJs double as the MC but truthfully, proper wedding etiquette demands that the two people are separate and distinct identities. In fact their roles are not even alike so it is surprising that people view these two roles as one and the same.

The Master of Ceremonies at a wedding has many duties; some of which include:
announcing the bride and groom;
announcing the toasts and introducing the toast makers;
getting the guests seated and ready for the arrival of the bride and groom into the meal area;
politely and tactfully moving the process along when people get long winded;
and generally announcing all traditional and special events during the wedding reception.

As one can clearly determine from the above list, the key asset of a Master of Ceremonies is the ability to speak without getting riled. The MC is comfortable with people and enjoys his/her leadership role. He/she is also organized and generally knows at least the bride or the groom and one of their families.

The Disc Jockey is the person who provides the music for the wedding. He is in tune with current music, makes available music that may be requested by the bride and groom and provides music that is appropriate to a wedding dance, Further, he is responsible for making the dance portion of the reception enjoyable and fun for the guests. The music must be inline with the couple’s tastes and at the same time appeal to all ages and genders. The party must stay alive and the guests depend on the DJ to help keep the party atmosphere.

Usually the master of ceremony is a relative or close friend, someone who knows enough about the couple to provide meaningful comments and direction throughout the reception. The disc jockey, on the other hand, may be someone you have never met prior to contracting his/her services for the wedding.

When choosing a DJ for a wedding reception, a few guidelines may help.
1. If you do not have someone who is available to perform the function of MC and you must ask the DJ to carry out this job, ask him several questions:
is he comfortable speaking in public – ask to see videos if available from previous wedding gigs
will he meet with you a couple times before the wedding to get an idea of your personality, preferences and tastes
does he charge extra for the extra duties

2. Inquire about the type of music that he has in his inventory and make sure he has at the very least, the songs you are requesting as “must-haves”. Specifically ask what type of music he plays because if he answers with a specific genre, this may not be acceptable for your wedding.

3. Will he/she allow you to call references? Inquire about reference letters as well. Most professional DJs take pride in their work and their service to a bridal couple. If they do not have any reference letters, then think twice about hiring that particular individual.

4. Is he familiar with the location of your wedding reception and will his equipment fit?

5. If you have been able to review a videos does the DJ
speak coherently when announcing events and toast makers
does the crowd look like they are enjoying the music or are the guests bored
are his jokes acceptable for all guests
does he take the initiative to direct the proceedings helping to keep things on track

6. As with other wedding vendors, be careful of people who “lowball” your quote. They may be providing a very cheap quote because their service is inferior or they are not experienced.

The Contract
Upon choosing a DJ, do not place a deposit on account until you have read and signed a written contract. Do not assume anything about the services being offered and do not use verbal commitments as your guide. Having the details in writing protects both the bridal couple and the DJ from potential misunderstandings.

What the Contract Should Include
Many wedding vendors will have standard contracts that are blank and they fill in your information when you are ready to sign. Generally, they do not write a specialized contract for each person but you should make sure that the standard contract explains all points relevant to your situation. Some of the items that should be stated on the contract are:
the time, date and location of the reception
how many hours the DJ is required
are there overtime rates and if so what are they
how much deposit is required and when
the total amount of all charges including extra equipment and helpers
what is the exact balance and when is it due
the list of requested songs
the list of taboo songs
what happens if the DJ does not show up
if DJ is responsible for other functions, what are they and are they extra charges

Checklists that the Couple should provide the DJ well in advance:
the list of requisite songs selected by the bride and groom
a list of songs that are not permitted to be played
a detailed itinerary of the reception if the DJ is responsible for the MC function – he/she will require a list of times and events in order to announce things such as the entrance of the happy couple, the toasts, the grace, the requisite dances, the garter throwing, the bouquet toss and the departure of the bride and groom
a list of names of the people making toasts and their association to the bride or groom
information about the location that may be specific to the DJ
any information about required apparel

Bridal showers are fun but the hostess is always looking for new ways to throw the shower. She wants it to be practical and useful to the guest of honor, the bride, and at the same time make it interactive for the guests. Here is a short list of ideas that can put some “oomph” into a wedding shower.

Tea Party Shower
Pretty teacup or garden party invitations are sent to the guests. They are asked to bring a beautiful teacup either from their own collection or a new one to be kept by the bride. If new ones are chosen, some guests may bring the pattern from the bride’s registry while other guests may bring their own choice. In addition, at least one guest should purchase a teapot and others should buy the little things that go along with a tea party. Tiny tea spoons in the bride’s silverware pattern, tea strainers, a collection of fancy teas and maybe a teapot cozy.

The hostess will have planned fancy refreshments such as little sandwiches, not necessarily watercress and cucumbers, but anything befitting a pretty tea party. Cake and ice cream will also be served.

Recipe Scrapbooking Shower
Scrapbooking of any kind has become a huge hobby. Take a look at the stores and the aisles are jam packed with scrapbooking supplies. This is a really nice idea for a Recipe Scrapbook Shower. Each guest can bring her favorite recipe on scrapbook index cards. The hostess should hand out one or two cards with every invitation so the guest can write her recipe on the card to be taken to the shower. At the shower, the scrapbook will be assembled giving the bride a beautiful book to keep for future reference.

The hostess should buy the scrapbooking supplies in order to complete the scrapbook at the shower. The supplies should include recipe cards, ribbons, tags and corner cutters, albums, construction paper, stickers and glues or tapes. Each guest can write on her recipe card as well as the tags to let the bride know from where the recipe came or how it originated.

Any type of food is acceptable for this shower theme but something that adds a real special flair is to have some of the guests bring the actual cooked food on her recipe card so the bride can add her notes to the album.

Time of the Day Shower
This is a really neat idea to receive practical gifts for around the house. Basically, when the hostess fills in the bridal shower invitations, she gives each person a specific time of the day. For example, she might write 6:00am. The guest with this time slot purchases a gift that would be used at that time of the day. It might be an alarm clock or clock radio or even towels or soaps for the shower.

The invitations should also include the couple’s color schemes for the rooms of their home so the guests can pick gifts that compliment the house. Be prepared to laugh at this shower as depending on the time of day and who received that time slot, the gifts may be quite surprising.

Whatever theme the hostess chooses, do not forget that the customary bridal shower hat should be made. Make sure to have a pretty paper plate or a plain aluminum pie plate and designate a helper. As the bride opens her gifts, the helper will tape all the trimmings from the packages to the plate. Once done, she will take a couple pieces of ribbon and make a tie for the hat. After all the gifts are opened, the helper places the hat on the bride’s head for her picture taking.

And one last point to the bride. Written thank you notes are a must. The hostess should have another helper sit beside the bride and as each present is opened, the helper will write the gift item on the appropriate tag or card so the bride knows what each person gave. When writing the notes, in addition to thanking the person, she should also briefly state how she will use the item or why she loves it.

Modern society has evolved dramatically in the last one hundred years. But, although it is true that wedding traditions have become more modern, traditions still play a large role in the wedding ceremony and reception. Weddings are rife with old-fashioned wives tales, symbolic gestures, quirky little nuances and superstitions that make the wedding day extra special. And depending on a couple’s tastes and budget; extremely extravagant displays of symbolism may honor the wedding day ceremony.

Three of the more popular displays are the release of doves, butterflies and balloons. Depending on the couple’s beliefs and also city ordinances, some couples have actually replaced throwing confetti, rice and birdseed at the conclusion of the wedding ceremony. Releasing Doves
White doves are chosen as the color white signifies purity in the same way does the relationship of the newly married couple. The two doves also signify the couple being released to start a new journey together. Equally important in the symbolism of the doves is their representation of the couple in that whatever happens in the couple’s lives, they will always try to seek the comfort of their home together. Releasing Balloons

A huge bag of air-filled balloons may be opened and all the balloons are let out to rise to the top of the building or ceiling. Another pretty display is for each person to let his/her balloon go at the same time and see them all rise up together.

Because most areas will not allow you to release the balloons into the open, an idea that is more environmentally acceptable is to release the balloons inside. The guests may also attach their own personal sayings to the balloons so that later the bride and groom can read the sentiments from their well wishers.

25 Tips to a Wedding on a Budget

eddings are expensive whether you have a stipulated budget or the sky is the limit. The more people involved and the greater the wedding theme, the harder it will be on someone’s pocket book. In order to keep the bridal couple on track, setting a budget from the very beginning of the planning stages will be important. And “budget” does not have to be a nasty word. Indeed, when people hear the word “budget”, they equate the word with “cheap” as though the two words were interchangeable in meaning.

But what we want to show here is that for most couples, the wedding cannot be planned without some sort of budget. And sticking to your budget does not mean that you must scrimp, buying inferior services and putting on a shabby event. On the contrary, keeping to your budget will help you to make practical decisions saving money rather than making decisions from the heart which are usually more expensive. Your wedding will still be beautiful regardless of how little or how large your budget.

1. Buy a second hand wedding gown. Large cities have second hand or used wedding gown boutiques. Most gowns will be in excellent condition, as the storeowner will build her reputation on lovely gowns and service. Also, if your city does not have a boutique in which to search, there is nothing wrong with checking thrift stores. The cost of the gown will be very little and you may only need to add the expenses of cleaning the gown and minor alterations.

2. Another idea for the wedding gown is to have a vintage wedding. The bride may recycle a gown from her mother or grandmother having it altered to fit. She could then add her own accessories and other vintage pieces to make a stunning ensemble.

3. Shop for services at the grocery store and dollar stores where possible. Examples of goods and services that the supermarket or discount store offers would be:

9. It seems to be more common today for the wedding party to purchase their own attire. Should you feel comfortable in asking, you might ask your bridesmaids and ushers if they would pay for their dresses and tuxedos.

10. Pare down your attendant list. For the women in particular, less bouquets alone will save considerable expenses. Then there is the transportation from the church to the picture taking and from there to the reception. Fewer people to transport will mean less rented vehicles.

11. Buffets are always less expensive than sit-down meals. Most people prefer buffets, anyway, because they can pick and choose their favorites. Do not choose items that add considerably to the price per person.

12. Forego the midnight snack at the reception. Many couples now feel obligated to provide another small meal at midnight. It usually consists of hot beef sandwiches or the like but this again unnecessarily adds to the expenses of the day. If you feel that you must offer something later in the evening, choose crackers, cheese, pickles and raw vegetables. Buy in bulk from the grocery store and prepare platters in advance saving on caterer’s fees.

13. Rent a cake topper instead of purchasing something that you will never use again. If a friend or relative has been married recently and purchased a non-personalized cake topper, ask to borrow it. In fact, forget the cake topper altogether. Edible flowers or even artificial flowers can be used nicely to decorate the top of the cake.

14. Flower girl baskets and ring bearer pillows are actually now available in dollar stores.

15. Ask members of the family to help with things that they enjoy. Your may still offer a stipend for the work performed but it will be considerably cheaper than hiring a professional service such as a photographer, videographer, bartender and music maker at the reception.

16. Borrow as much as you can from family members instead of renting. If the wedding will be held in the backyard, use chairs and tables borrowed from others.

17. Limousines and fancy rented cars are not necessary. Decorate relatives’ and friends’ cars and ask for volunteers as drivers.

18. If anyone would like to provide their services or goods as the wedding present to the couple, gladly accept. Maybe one of the ladies in the family loves to bake and her gift to the couple would be the wedding cake.

19. A honeymoon is not necessary the night of the wedding. Save your money and go later when you need the vacation. Also, not planning a honeymoon right away will save money on travel, food and clothing.

20. Some couples are now deciding not to pay for alcoholic drinks. A bar is offered but the bride and groom may only pay for the cocktails and the wine at the meal.

21. Prioritize your spending budget. If having photos or a video that will last a lifetime is more important, then spend less or nothing on decorations and other services that are not required.

22. If you really find that you must spend more money on one area of your budget, cut out a similar amount from another area. And likewise, if you have saved money, keep it, do not be tempted to go out and spend it on more lavish items.

23. Do not make decisions or buy at the last moment. You will invariably spend more money than you had budgeted.

24. Ask about discounts for venues that have cancellations. Also think about holding your reception on a day other than Saturday as this is the most popular day of the week.

Choosing Accessories for the Wedding Gown

ithout doubt, the biggest wedding decision that the bride must make involves her wedding gown and ensemble. Even if the bride chooses a gown handed down from her mother or an inexpensive cocktail dress, the effect must be perfect. Every bride wishes to look regal and elegant.

Once she has chosen the dress, she will start looking for accessories. Some of the items will depend on the time of the year. For instance if she is being married in a cooler climate, she will require a cape, shawl or faux fur stole for traveling outside. She may also choose to add pretty faux fur muffs for her hands and matching hat for her head and ears.

Regardless of the time of year, there are some standard accessories that all brides choose for her special day. But there are also others that add a splash of color or personality to the ensemble making the bride’s look truly unique.

Dress Sashes
Colorful ribbons and sashes can be added to the waist of the wedding dress or around the shoulders. The chosen color may compliment the bridesmaids’ gowns or may be the exact same color. The male vests or cummerbunds may also match the color scheme.

Dress sashes are perfect for women who want a splash of color but who do not want to deviate from the traditional white gown. The sash allows her more freedom of choice to move into a more modern era but at the same time allows her to keep the old tradition alive.

Jewelry
Jewelry will depend on the bride’s preferences in terms of how much she wants to wear or how little. For women who wear little or no jewelry on a regular basis, she may keep it simple by using only earrings and a small necklace or string of pearls.

Another area that will dictate the type of jewelry is the neckline of the dress. A high collared dress limits the type of jewelry and may be too elaborate for any type of necklace. On the other hand, a low cut or round neck dress may be perfect for a large piece of jewelry with many strands or baubles.

Tiaras, Veils, Hairpieces
The bride may choose a tiara for herself and her flower girl. When choosing a tiara, it is best to pin your hair up roughly the same way it will be on your wedding day. Keeping your hair down when trying on tiaras will fit a smaller tiara, then on your wedding day if your hair is high up, you will have a problem. Some tiaras have tiny combs attached to help brides with fine hair. The combs will help to keep the hair in place. Other tiaras sit on the crown of the head.

Veils generally come in five lengths.
Shoulder length or blusher veils are lovely for civil ceremonies, as the outfit worn is not generally as elaborate as the wedding gown.
Elbow length veils look great with gowns that have no train.
Fingertip length veils are perfect for most full length gowns except those will a train.
Chapel length, which basically just touches the floor.
And the cathedral length veils are best reserved for formal weddings with the bride wearing a long train. The veil normally extends until the end of the train.

Tiaras, veils and hairpieces are chosen not only by the bride’s preference but also, by how it looks with the gown. The headdress should not detract from the gown. It should flow naturally and look like it is part of the ensemble. The headpiece should also match the gown. If the gown is embellished with pearls, the headdress may seem out of place with another type of gemstone. Also, the headpiece should be chosen as though it was a piece of jewelry. The stones of all pieces should compliment one another.

Handbag or Purse
Many people wonder why a bride would carry a handbag on her wedding day. Surely, she would not need money; surely she carries a bouquet down the aisle not a handbag; and surely, the handbag would only be a nuisance carrying it all over the place.

On the contrary, the handbag is an essential piece of any woman’s wardrobe and her wedding day is no different. The purpose of the handbag may be different on her wedding day, but most brides, indeed, require a handbag. The main reason for the purse or handbag is to act as an emergency bag. The purse may contain mints, lipstick and makeup for touch ups before the picture taking, tissues for crying, extra pins and elastics for her hair, needle and thread and any other items she feels she should have close by.

Of course, she does not carry her own handbag. Normally she will ask someone close to her to bring it to the picture taking and the reception hall. She may even use her purse as the going away purse, which she will need at the dinner. Like all the other accessories in the bride’s ensemble, she will choose a handbag that best suits her wedding gown. In some instances, she will choose a purse to match her going away outfit instead of the wedding dress.

Shoes
Shoes must be comfortable while at the same time match the dress. Do not buy shoes that conflict with the style of the dress. Like the headpiece, the shoes flow with the whole outfit. Also, buy shoes with heels to which you are accustomed or you will find it very difficult to walk.

Lingerie
Properly fitted lingerie and undergarments are a must for the wedding day. A wedding gown always looks its best when the undergarments are made to fit the body. And remember that when you purchase the lingerie, bring the lingerie and the shoes to your final dress fitting so that the proper alterations can be made.

Green or Eco Weddings
More and more couples are becoming concerned with the sustainability of the earth, its environment and wildlife. For this reason, green weddings where the couple recycle, regenerate and respect the planet are hugely popular.

o You Need Videography and How to Choose a Professional

Wedding Videography is the live taping of one’s wedding. And one might ask why you need both photography and videography but many couples appreciate as many memories as possible and as many different kind of wedding shots as possible.

In addition to the memories, many bridal couples find that on the wedding day, they are so nervous and anxious of the day itself and worry so often about whether anything will go wrong that they miss most of the day. They do not really hear the speech that their dear uncle performed, they did not see the lovely song the little cousins sang and they really might not remember who was in attendance.

One other sad but real reason for having a video of the wedding is to have memories of our loved ones once they have passed on. The video imparts special meaning when we can go back and actually see our special relatives.

Videography has been around for some time now and many people have used it for their weddings but interestingly enough, many studies and surveys indicate that most couples do not think it is an important service when planning their weddings. In fact, they listed it at the bottom of the priorities. And when they finally decided that they might like to have a video, they contacted someone last minute as though it were an after thought.

The surveys, further, showed that after the wedding, the couples regretted not having paid as much attention to the service as it deserved. Videography moved higher up on the list of priorities and the couples felt that they had neglected that area of services provided to them the day of the wedding. They also felt that because they had not taken videography seriously, that they had either not budgeted anything for the videography or had budgeted a ridiculously low amount, which had left them scrambling at the last minute.

Knowing that the bride and groom should add “choosing a videography” to their wedding planning checklist, here a few points to help the bridal couple get started.

Myth 1
Be careful of amateurs moonlighting as videographers. With sophisticated software and computers, anyone can say that he/she is a professional. The truth is that videography is specialized work and a good wedding video requires a professional.

Myth 2
Photography and videography are redundant. On the contrary, today’s wedding should include both. Many of the relatives do not own computers or DVDs and still do things the old-fashioned way. Sending a video to Grandma might be pointless but she would cherish your wedding photo in a frame on her bedside table.

Myth 3
When you choose a video, you will receive a movie-like production. You need to be specific in your requests. The videographer is not really producing a movie. Upon your request, he may add music and titles, but this must be discussed when booking the videographer.

Myth 4
You do not need the video as you have plenty of photos. As we have indicated above, the general consensus among married couples seems to be that they missed the boat on videography. Use this “expert hindsight” to your advantage and make the appropriate arrangements for a professional videographer.

When choosing a videographer, look for someone who seems to care about you. Set up interviews and review past work. If available, look at work performed in the same location as your wedding ceremony and reception. If choosing one person over another, this may be an advantage because if the videographer has worked in the same location before, he or she will know the pitfalls and will strive to improve the video.

Review in depth the techniques used on the finished product. Are they all alike or can the videographer do custom work? Can he/she use the music that you request? Will he or she video the exact moments that you choose?

In addition to asking all the right questions, once you have decided on a videographer, have a written contract drafted. It should include:
number of finished videos to be received
costs of any extras such as custom video sleeves
deposit required
total costs including taxes and extra charges
balance and due date
details of special effects
any music requested in the background
date final product ready for pickup
